London Olympics 2012 schedule, facts, moscots

     The 2012 Summer Olympic Games or "London 2012 Olympic Games", are scheduled to take place in London, England. Event is scheduled from 27 July to 12 August 2012. The date is coming near and world is looking towards London.

Moscots:
     The official mascots for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics are namely Wenlock and Mandeville. A London-based creative agency iris designed these two animations which shows two drops of Steel from steel factory in Bolton. 
     According to Wikipedia, They are named after the Shropshire town of Much Wenlock, which held a forerunner of the current Olympic Games, and Stoke Mandeville Hospital, a facility in Buckingham shire that initially organized the Stoke Mandeville Games, the precursor of the Paralympic Games.

New year celebration:

     Fireworks light up the London skyline and Big Ben at midnight of New year 2012. Thousands of people lined the banks of the River Thames in central London to ring in the New Year with a spectacular fireworks display.

Some facts and information related to London Olympics 2012

1. London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times.
2. The London Olympics will add £10bn revenue in the British economy as a whole. (Lloyds TSB) 
3. Over 200 buildings had to be renewed at the 2.5sqkm Olympic Park, it includes the main five Venues.
4. This year will be the 60th anniversary of the Paralympics.
5. Ticket prices range from £20 for many events to £2,012 for the most expensive seats at the opening ceremony.

A) About Olympic Stadium
1. The Olympic Stadium is having a capacity of 80,000 during the Games.
2. The fourteen lighting towers are built up near stadium.
3. This is the first Olympic Games with HD TV freeze-frame coverage. These are required to capture the action.
4. It is the lightest Olympic stadium ever in the history of Olympic.
5. 2,500 tonnes of steel tubing is used to make supporting structure of roof. It is actually recycled from old gas pipelines.

B) About Aquatics Center
1. The steel used to build the Aquatics centre comes from Newport in Wales.
2. 12,000 square metres wave shaped roof on the Aquatics Centre is 1.5 times bigger than Wembley football pitch
3. The material that had to be digged out to build the Aquatics centre is the equivalent to 160,000 tonnes of soil.

C) About Velodrome
1. The Velodrome is one of the most sustainable venues in the Olympic Park.
2. 17 km of steel cables (That’s over 10 miles of steel cable) are used to make the Velodrome ‘Cable – net’ roof. twice the height of Mount Everest.
3. The lightweight roof weighs roughly half that of any other covered Velodrome, helping create a highly-efficient building.

D) About Main Press Center or International Broadcast Center
1. It's size is similar to six full size football pitches.
2. It is 24 hour media hub for around 20,000 broadcasters, photographers and journalists who will explore the games to four billion people worldwide.
