How to celebrate eco friendly ganesh festival?

Ganesh Festival is becoming more spectacular by every year. With the time, it also started affecting our environment. Now the time has come when we have to sit and think about celebrating eco-friendly Ganesh festival. Here I am sharing some practical tips so that you will get a way of reducing pollution from our environment and make this festival more spiritual.

1. Instead of using thermocol or plastic for decoration, you can use wood paper, cloth and other natural materials.

2. Decorate your Ganesh sittings with electric lamps and natural flowers and fruits (if possible)

3. Use Ganesh idols (In Marathi : Murti) made up of unbaked natural clay or recycled paper or natural fibre. Many social organiations make such idols available to you. Avoid POP (Plaster of Paris) as it is non-biodegradable hence harms our environment.

4. Make sure that organic and vegetable dyes are used to colour idols.

5. Organic material like your offered flowers (known as 'Nirmalya') should be decomposed in garden. While immersing them, wrap them in newspaper instead of roling in polythene bags.

6. Use artificial tank to immerse your idol. You can use that water for your garden. By this way, your god will be always with you. :)

7. If possible, use stone or metal idol. You can immerse it in water and get back it to your home.

8. Dont forget to use above tips practically.

Some of the tips like 'immersing idols in artificial tank' and 'using metal idols' might be opposed by your elder relatives. Explain them the need of doing such things.

Wish you happy and eco-friendly Ganesh festival.
